Vessels, Urns, Platters, and Bowls
Each vessel, urn and platter from our studios is a unique piece of art. Here is Natalie's description of the artistic process involved with each piece:
"What brings me back to the thrown vessel time after time is the possibility of capturing the poise and vibrancy of clay as it expands outwards on the wheel. The sculptural components and layered colors create a lush depth of surface, an inviting texture, and a sense of three-dimensional space.
My carving has been referenced to folded fabric, conjuring the image of expandability through breath. By using the thrown form as canvas, images are influenced by the same intuitive tools used to create three-dimensional as well as two-dimensional expressions. The particular curves of the thrown piece influence the choice and movement of my texture or design over each unique form.
My pieces are thrown in porcelain, carved, fired with surfaces in rich colors, and finished with hand built lids. My carving is inspired by aquatic, botanical, industrial, and mythical elements, and the source of the inspiration is always changing. " — Natalie Blake
